False Lashes: Will It Ruin My Real Eyelashes?

Sep 09, 2020
False Lashes: Will It Ruin My Real Eyelashes?

If you weren’t born with lashes that touch the tips of your sunglasses, you’ve probably tried every lash-lengthening mascara out there to attempt to get your natural eyelashes even a millimeter longer. We understand--it can be maddening. No matter how hard you try or what products you use, those sparse, short  lashes just never have the volume you so desire.

As you start to research other ways to lengthen your lashes, you’ll find there are some pretty crazy methods of lash lengthening available. Serums claim to lengthen and thicken your lashes, but results take months to show results and can come with some really undesirable side effects like discoloration to your eyelids and your iris! Extensions seem a little less invasive until you realize each individual lash extension is glued to your natural lashes and takes the natural lash with them when they fall out. We want longer lashes, but not at that expense.

Falsies

The crystal clear option is false eyelash strips. Nothing provides as much volume and length as a great pair of reusable false eyelashes. They’re easy to apply, easy to wear, a cinch to remove, and generally well-tolerated by everyone.  Doe Lashes specializes in the most comfortable false eyelashes available, featuring a 100% cotton lash band that is virtually weightless on your lid. That means you can wear your false eyelashes all day or all night without discomfort.

If you’ve been considering false eyelash strips to lengthen and add volume to your lashes, you may be wondering if the false eyelash strips will hurt, damage, or even ruin your natural lashes. That can be a scary thought--after all, you may already feel like your lashes are sparse to begin with! We’re here to help. We’ve been offering (and using) our high-quality false eyelashes for a minute now, so we know the lash game inside and out. You can think of the team at Doe Lashes like your lash besties; we’ll share all our inside information with you so you don’t have to waste time researching the latest lash trends.

The great news is, no, false eyelashes will not ruin your real eyelashes. In fact, they don’t really interfere with them at all. False eyelash strips, when applied correctly, sit just above your natural lash line on your eyelid.. Even though the lash adhesive can sometimes find its way to the base of your natural lashes, it is completely safe and gentle, so you don’t have to worry about harming them.

If you’re still concerned with whether or not false lashes are actually safe, we’ve got your back. We’ll go over how false eyelashes work, including how to apply and take them off, and how you can trust they are safe. It’s good to ask questions, and even better to get solid answers. That’s what we’re here for.

How Do False Eyelashes Work?

False eyelashes are really simple to use. After applying them once or twice, you’ll really feel confident about application and will be able to get them on quickly and easily. The first time may seem awkward, and as such we highly recommend grabbing a lash application tool. Using a lash applicator can take a lot of the frustration out of first-time lash application, and can also be beneficial for proficient lash experts who like to keep their lash application quick and completely mess-free.

The application process is really simple.

You can apply your lashes in just five easy steps.

  1. Apply your makeup, including your eyeshadow. Skip the mascara for now, that comes later.
  2. Curl your natural lashes.   Your false eyelashes have a natural curve, so curling your own eyelashes can help the false eyelashes blend in perfectly with your natural lashes. Curling your lashes won’t harm them if you use a rubber coated lash curler and squeeze it gently. Apply mascara, if you feel like you need it.
  3. Remove your false eyelashes from the packaging and apply a thin line of lash adhesive on the cotton band. Wait for the glue to become tacky, about 10-20 seconds.
  4. Using the lash application tool, gently press the false eyelash strip right above  your natural lash line.
  5. Let dry. Before you run out the door, give your lashes a few seconds to dry. You can test the bond of your lashes by gently tugging on the middle portion of them to make sure they are completely attached.

That’s it! Your lashes are now in place and ready for the day. You will likely forget they’re even there. And if you’re concerned that the lash glue might be harmful, no need to worry. Most  lash adhesives are strong enough to hold your lashes in place, but gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. It is very unlikely you’ll experience any kind of irritation from your lash adhesive.

Removing your lashes is even easier. Once they’ve done their duty and stayed in place all day, you can remove them and store them for future use. Doe Lashes are reusable up to 15 times if properly stored and cared for !

Here’s how to easily and safely remove your lashes.

  1. Gently begin by pulling at the middle portion of your lash band. If you feel any kind of pain, this is a signal you’ve grabbed onto your natural lashes along with the false lash strip. Release the lashes immediately and start again.
  2. Once you’ve pulled the lash band away from your natural lash line in the middle of the lash strip, you can gently pull outward on the edges of the lashes. Do this until the lash strip is completely removed from your lash line.
  3. Clean your lash band. You can remove any remaining lash adhesive by gently rubbing your finger over the lash band and removing the beads of adhesive.
  4. Store your lashes. The best way to store your lashes is to place them back in the original packaging. This helps them to retain their shape and ensures they are safe from getting lost or damaged by water from a nearby sink.

It’s easy to tell once you’ve removed your lashes that your natural lashes have not been harmed by the use of the false eyelash strip. You’ll find your natural lashes are in the exact same shape as before you applied your lash strip. The fact that false eyelash strips do not interfere with your natural lashes or their growth is extremely appealing for those of us who still want to ensure the health and beauty of our natural eyelashes.

How Can I Know My False Eyelashes Are Completely Safe?

You might still have questions, and we understand that. There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding eyelash lengthening methods. If you aren’t fully versed on what the potential risks are for things like eyelash extensions, eyelash serums, and false eyelash strips, it can get really confusing. We can help straighten it out.

Here are some of the risks associated with different types of eyelash treatments.

Eyelash extensions.  These are individual synthetic lash fibers which are applied to your natural lashes with a lash adhesive that is as strong as super glue. These lashes remain attached until your natural lashes fall out, so generally they last about three to four weeks.

The problem with eyelash extensions is twofold. The glue with which the extensions are applied is notorious for being unkind to your eyes. Unlike the hypoallergenic lash glue offered by many companies , this glue sometimes contains harsh and irritating ingredients like formaldehyde. Not only can this present a potential infection risk, it can also be damaging to your natural lashes’ follicles.

Eyelash serums. Depending on which serum you use, the potential side effects will be different. One side effect from lash serums that really made users think twice about continuing to apply  it on their lash lines is  the potential it has to darken your eyelids and iris.

More common side effects are itchiness, irritation, redness, and swelling. These side effects usually occur because the ingredients in some serums aren’t all natural; in fact, one popular serum is actually a medication that is  used to treat inner ocular pressure issues. That’s not really something we want around our healthy eyes!

Eyelash bands.  Strip lashes are safe and effective when used properly and stored carefully. According to the FDA, strip lashes are safe as long as the glue adhesive doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients. Many lash glues are completely safe, gentle enough for super sensitive skin, and do not contain formaldehyde.

So, what’s the verdict?

You can use strip lashes safely without risk to your own natural lashes and without worrying that you’ll mess up the application; you can do it, and our tutorials can help.

False eyelashes can be a great way to safely and effectively lengthen your lashes without risking damage to your natural lashes or eyelid skin.  Doe Lashes provides the highest quality lashes that wear comfortably and are reusable up to fifteen times so you can enhance your lashes as often as you want.
