False lashes are a valuable addition to any full-face makeup routine, but are you looking for a way to give your look a little more pop? Do you have a special event coming up and want to make a bold statement? Festival season is in full swing, and we have just the way to take your look to the next level.
If you’re feeling adventurous, glow-in-the-dark eyelashes are the perfect way to add a creative spin on classic makeup and brighten up your face (literally). We’ll walk you through just what glow-in-the-dark eyelashes are and when the best time to take out these bold beauties is.
What Are Glow-in-the-Dark Lashes?
Glow-in-the-dark eyelashes are false lashes made with fluorescent fibers that glow under UV or black light. Though they may seem slightly funkier than your classic fluffy lash, glow-in-the-dark eyelashes are quite similar to everyday lashes.
Glow-in-the-dark eyelashes come in a variety of styles ranging from subtle to showstopping. More understated lashes resemble your typical black false lash with just a few pops of glowing fibers integrated into the lash line. These are perfect for an ethereal look that draws attention to the eyes without blinding your bae.
For a more daring look, you can opt for a lash made with only glow-in-the-dark fibers so you can light up the night wherever you go. These are a perfect addition to flashy festival wear or an eye-catching ensemble for a neon party.
Just like your spirit day glow sticks, lashes and their glow-in-the-dark fibers can come in a variety of dazzling colors. Pink, orange, and green are some of the most popular color choices for glowing in the dark since they showcase the brightest after-hours glow.
What Makes Glow-in-the-Dark Lashes Shine?
By now, you’re wondering what makes these spectacular lashes glow, and we have an answer for you. Grab your school books and let us take you through the shortest science lesson of your life — the science of beauty, that is.
Thanks to a process called phosphorescence, your shiny new glow-in-the-dark eyelashes contain a unique substance called phosphor, which emits light after being energized through light. This means you will need to allow your lashes to soak up light throughout the day for them to be ready for a festive evening. Natural or artificial light both work; however, natural sunlight is the most effective.
When you rock your new lashes around town or at home, the atoms inside the phosphors get excited from exposure to an external source of energy (light). In their excited state, these atoms can radiate light as they return to their neutral energy level.
The more excited the atoms, the longer the period it takes for them to spend their energy and return to a neutral level. If that was too much science, here’s the SparkNotes version — the longer you charge your lashes before use, the longer they will glow.
The most important thing to remember when prepping to rock a vivid glow-in-the-dark lash is that they do not glow in just any environment. Even when charged in light throughout the day, phosphorescent fibers require UV or black light to show off their brilliant shine. This is because the phosphors convert UV radiation from black light into visible light.
Science class is now dismissed. Outside of 10th-grade chemistry, you’ve most likely encountered black lights in places like bowling alleys, roller rinks, or laser tag arenas. But there are many other places to show off a glow-in-the-dark lash!
Where Can I Wear Glow-in-the-Dark Lashes?
Bowling alleys and laser tag are old news. Knowing that you will need somewhere flooded with brilliant UV light, we have a hearty list of perfect places for you to flaunt your feathery new glowing lashes for all (or just you) to enjoy:
1. Wear Your Lashes to a Party
Sporting a glow-in-the-dark lash will make you the life of any party. They are most effective at crafting a supernatural stare that is sure to be the talk of any haunting Halloween celebration. Equally as striking can be choosing to steal the spotlight at a neon-themed party or a night out at the club!
2. Wear Your Lashes to a Music Festival
Nothing says summer quite like music festivals –- a time to make a splash and stand out! Music festivals are the best place to be adventurous with your look, and try something bright and colorful with glow-in-the-dark lashes.
3. Wear Your Lashes to a Concert
Have you ever dreamed about your favorite artist plucking you out of the crowd? You can ensure that they will have no trouble spotting you even in the nosebleeds by popping on glow-in-the-dark lashes for your next concert — though we can’t promise you’ll make it on stage.
4. Wear Your Lashes at a Photoshoot
If you aren’t quite ready to strut your stuff in public with a bold glow-in-the-dark lash, why not stage a black light photoshoot of your own? A personal photo shoot is a fantastic way to test drive your lashes and get some impressively unique pictures for your Instagram.
What Are Other Fun Lashes You Can Wear Out?
We think glow-in-the-dark lashes are a great way to shake up your look, but we understand that they might not be for everybody. The glowing light might be bothersome to those with light-sensitive eyes (photophobia) or imperfect vision (glasses gang, we got you), or they might just not be your thing. No sweat!
Here are a few of our favorite (non-glowing) Doe Lashes false lashes sure to give you that same flare and pizazz without the phosphors.
1. Morning Dew
Much like their name, the Morning Dew lashes create a fresh, on-the-go, awakened look with their playful wispiness and fluffy lash fans. It’s perfect for elevating your office look or adding a flirtatious flare to a casual date night (places you might not prefer to pull out the glowing pink eyelashes).
2. Starry Night
Our Starry Night lashes are a gorgeous, elegant cat-eye style falsie that is guaranteed to turn heads. It gives a flair for the dramatic without overwhelming the eye, making it the perfect sultry lash for a night out or an upscale event.
3. Whimsical
You don’t need glow-in-the-dark lashes to make a statement when you have these lovelies. Whimsical lashes do not sleep on the volume and waste no space on the lash line. By far the most theatrical of the three we have listed here, these lashes were made to be seen and deliver undeniable eyelash WOW.
Before You Glow
Falsies are not just an extension of your lash but an extension of you. At Doe Lashes, we love being able to help you and your personality shine through your eyelashes (quite literally).
