Applying false eyelashes can be difficult if you’re starting from scratch or don’t know what you’re doing. You can lose your patience really easily and swear you’ll never try false eyelashes ever again. Still, you know you likely will because it’s that longing for voluminous, gorgeous lashes that brings us back to the table to give it a try every single time. It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to be at war with your falsies and lash glue. You can become an eyelash application expert in no time at all with the proper guidance. Applying false eyelashes well requires:
- Great quality false eyelashes. If you buy super inexpensive, low-quality lashes, you’ll probably end up frustrated. Cheap lashes are notoriously difficult to apply, uncomfortable, and usually do not stay in place very long. If you’ve spent all morning furiously attempting to apply your lashes only to have them fall off immediately after you finally get them attached, you are going to end up frustrated and feeling defeated.
- Patience. You have to be patient with the lashes and with yourself. Even if you’ve been going at this for a while, if you’ve been trying to do it incorrectly, it just isn’t going to work. If you feel like you’re losing your patience, put everything down, and do something else for five minutes. Come back when you’ve cooled off.
- A high-quality lash glue. If you’re working with a poorly created glue, you’ll probably have a bad experience. You need to use a glue that has been tested and reviewed, and proven that it will work. Eyelash glue is available in numerous different formulas and strengths, so you can practically customize your lash glue based on your personal needs and the type of false eyelashes you are using.
- Extra time. We all want to get out the door and on with our day (or night) as quickly as possible, but in the beginning, you’re going to have to allocate some extra time while you’re learning to properly apply your false eyelashes. You don’t need to set aside a half-hour, but give yourself a few extra minutes in case you mess up or need to redo something. You’ll appreciate that time buffer if you need it, and if you don’t, you’ll be out the door early, which is always a great thing!
If you’re wondering what is available in the world of fake eyelashes, we’ve got you. There are numerous ways you can add volume and create length if your natural lashes are a bit less voluminous than you’d like them to be. Here are three different types of false eyelashes you can apply at home.
- Full strip eyelashes. These are really the beauty industry standard for increasing volume and length instantaneously. In fact, more makeup artists use false eyelash strips on their clients than any other type of lashes. Even celebrity stylists use false eyelash strips on their clients, and if it’s good enough for Miley and Beyonce, we’re down with it too.
- Single strip lashes. These mini clusters of lashes are made up of five to ten lash fibers all tied together at the base. These are good for creating a little extra volume or length in certain places, instead of the entire lid. If you prefer not to use strip lashes and only add length and volume in certain places, these may be a good option. However, these false eyelashes are a bit harder to work with than strip lashes. They require a really strong adhesive and can be applied to the lash line or to your individual lashes. If you are a novice, we’d wait to give these a try.
- Individual eyelash fibers. These are the hardest to apply and the most time-consuming. These are individual false eyelash fibers that are glued to your individual eyelash fibers with a high-grade glue. These lashes remain intact until your natural eyelash falls out, taking with it the false eyelash. These really take some time to master, but as with all things, it is possible if you’re patient and willing to spend the time and energy to learn.
If you’re interested in giving individual eyelash fibers a go, you can do it in six steps.
How to Apply Individual Lashes
Although we’re definitely #teamstriplash, we understand you might want to give individual lashes a shot. And if you’re addicted to salon lashes, you could save some money by applying individual lashes on your own. Here’s how to apply individual lash fibers to your natural lashes.
- Cleanse your natural lashes. Using an oil-free eye makeup remover or facial cleanser, gently wash your natural lashes and pat them dry.
- Create a basin of eyelash glue. You’ll need to use something like wax paper, aluminum foil, or parchment paper and create a small space capable of holding about five drops of eyelash glue. Drop the eyelash glue onto the basin.
- Using a pair of tweezers, carefully remove a single eyelash fiber from its packaging.
- Gently roll the base of the lash and the bottom quarter portion of it in the glue.
- Carefully place the base of the lash as close to your natural lash line as possible, without touching your actual eyelid. This is a really tedious and difficult step, so if you don’t get it the first time, it’s okay.
- Repeat steps 3-5 until you have applied the number of false eyelash fibers that you want and have the volume and length you’re trying to achieve.
If you attempt to apply the individual lash fiber and it pushes back your natural lash, immediately remove the false lash fiber and clean your lashes with makeup remover and try again. If your lashes get stuck together because there is an excess of glue on the individual false eyelash fiber you are applying, you’ll need to stop and start over. However, it’s important to note that once the glue dries, you should not attempt to pull off or remove the individual eyelash fibers as they can pull your natural lash fibers out with them!
Your individual false eyelashes will last approximately as long as it takes your natural lashes to fall out (usually 2-3 weeks); however, reviewers seem to agree that individual lash fibers applied at home rarely last this long.
Why We Love Strip Lashes
We’re maybe just a little biased, but babes, strip eyelashes are so amazing and they’re going to be so much easier for you to apply than individual lash fibers. In fact, if you get it wrong with individual lash fibers, you can end up with a giant, gluey, spider-lash looking mess that is not very easily removed and can damage your natural lashes.
Strip lashes have never done us dirty like that. Doe Lashes creates the most beautiful, wispy lashes to give you the perfect style you want. Our lashes are:
- Easy to apply. Anyone can apply strip eyelashes, even a complete newbie. In fact, here’s an awesome tutorial to show you just how easy application really is.
- High-quality. Our lashes are made from 100% cruelty-free Korean silk, which mimics mink.
- Comfortable. We specialize in the most comfortable lashes around. Our lash bands are 100% cotton, which means you’ll hardly notice them when they’re on your lash line. Our bands and lashes are virtually weightless.
- Affordable and reusable. Our lash sets are usually under $13 per pair and can be reused over fifteen times with proper care. That makes each use less than one dollar per pair, which is an amazing value.
- Interchangeable. You can create an entire lash wardrobe with Doe Lashes because you can simply remove the current set you’re wearing and replace them with a different style whenever you need to. You can wear a lowkey pair of lashes to work and change them out for a more dramatic pair for evening. The options are endless when you can change your lashes on a whim.
We all want long, full lashes that draw attention to our eyes and really open them up. While there are numerous ways to enhance our lashes, the tried and true method of applying false eyelash strips is not only incredibly effective; it’s easy and affordable. Additionally, using false eyelash strips aren’t damaging to your natural lashes, because they are glued just above your natural lash line. Individual false eyelash fibers are glued to each natural lash and because of this, there is always a chance the false eyelash fiber could rip out your natural lash along with it.
Attempting to apply individual eyelash fibers can be a really tedious and frustrating process. Unless you’ve got some solid experience, it can sometimes be virtually impossible to do. A better option is to use strip eyelashes, which create a great amount of volume and length with virtually zero frustration and in less than half the time it would take you to apply individual eyelash fibers. Skip the drama, and opt for strip eyelashes to achieve the lash style you want.
